A Morning with Toni Handoko

While visiting Jogja for a holiday, I got a chance to catchup with Toni Handoko, a good friend that used to lead Digital Studio Workshop in Jogja. His recent hobby turns into business is B/W photography. A fascinating information regarding B/W world, manual lens combined with digital body and a snapshot of me. Another fascinating info is about the T-shirt world, in which he is the designer for many collectors community, including VW, toys and many others. Free T-shirt for me as well. A morning well spent with a good friend!

I saw James Nachtwey photos in Graphis magazines and truly inspired and admired his body of works. I created this illustration that tells James biography. This work has been awarded The Best Illustration in Academy of Art College, San Francisco in 1995 and has been included in IdN selected works. I used this artwork for the Photoshop book that I wrote back in 1995.

Saya selalu menikmati saat-saat berkumpul dengan para fotografer di Salon Foto. Ini kali kedua saya diminta menjadi juri. Kali ini dalam kategori Kreatif Inovatif (Sofcopy Digital).

Saya melihat peningkatan yang cukup signifikan dari beberapa tahun sebelumnya. Inovasi melalui efek digital tidak lagi sebatas filter, tetapi telah mampu memberikan makna atas visualisasi.

Proses penjurian selalu melalui beberapa tahap. Di tahap awal, kita berlima duduk melihat monitor dan memilih foto yang layak pamer atau tidak. Setelah melalui tahap ini, kita mulai memberikan nilai atas foto-foto yang masuk nominasi. Dari sekian foto terpilih, maka para juri memberikan rank atas foto dan kita saling berdiskusi dan bertukar pendapat mengapa memilih foto-foto tersebut. Terakhir, nilai tertinggi adalah berdasarkan angka yang diberikan oleh para juri. Bravo untuk pemenang Salon Foto 2007.
